Georgia wins World Women Team Championship |
Georgia concluded the event in style, by defeating the host country and three-times world champions China. The decisive game of the match was Meri Arabidze's fine victory on the second board. From the early opening stage the Georgian put a strong pressure on her opponent Shen Yang, won a pawn and went on to convert into full point. The remaining three games were drawn.

Round 8: Georgia, Russia and China win |
The World Women Team Championship will see exciting finish as Georgia and Russia are still fighting for gold medals in the final round. The leader of the tournament won another match, this time against Armenia with 3:1 score. Georgia has 15 points, while Russia follows with 13 points after victory in the match against Ukraine. Other three matches finished with 3.5 : 0.5 score - China defeated USA, Kazakhstan outplayed Egypt and India was stronger against Poland. China is on the third place with 11 points and will meet in the final round with Georgia, while Russia is matched against USA.

Presidential Board Meeting Reception |
On the 26th of April the reception devoted to the start of the 1st Quarter Presidential Board Meeting took place at the Sulin Hall in Wang Jiang Hotel in Chengdu. It was attended by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Presidential Board members, members of FIDE Office, President of Chinese Chess Assosiation Yand Junan and other honorary guests. Round 7: Georgia increases lead to 2 points |
By winning in round 7 against India, Georgia increased its lead at the World Women Team Championship to 2 points. The main rival of Georgia, the Russian team, luckily avoided dramatic result in the match against Kazakhstan and finished the match with 2:2 score. Another critical match Ukraine-China was also tied and China kept the third place at the table. The USA and Armenian teams held each other to a draw with even scores on all boards. Poland outplayed Egypt with 3:1 score. Once again Wafa Shrook was the only Egyptian player, who brought a point to the team.

The director of Chengdu Chess Center and Chengdu Chess Institute, Jiang Quansheng, together with the President of the Russian Chess Federation, Andrey Filatov, made the first symbolic moves in the game Socko-Gunina at the start of the 6th round of World Women Team Championship.
